2 days in La Rochelle mid June- 4 adults and a baby(13m)

We are planning a short trip to La Rochelle in June, en route to a 1 week villa holiday in France with the rest of the family to celebrate our joint 60th birthdays.

We will have a car (ferry overnight from the UK) and prefer to stay somewhere central, but is it easier to leave the car at the hotel and travel round La Rochelle by walking or taxi?

Does anyone know of a special restaurant (baby friendly) that we can all go to start our joint celebrations?

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Many hotels have secure parking so leave the car at the hotel and walk, its not a big town you can get around easily on foot and there are some pedestrianised streets. If you stay in a hotel on the edge of town then you might need to take a bus or taxi to the centre. If you wanted to explore the area further like the Les Minimes area, you can walk there in 20 mins, or take a bus or hire the yellow bikes (you get 2 hours free on production of your passport)

As far as restaurants go, they are all child friendly (welcome to France!) but if you want an occasion restaurant it would depend on the types of food you all like. For seafood it would have to be Andres, for tapas and basque cuisine the Bogedon, for fine dining choose one of the Coutenceau brothers restaurants (pricey because one of them is michelin starred) , overlooking the port although quite touristy are many restaurants serving seafood, pizzas, steaks etc , and the best steak restaurant is the Cote de Boeuf. There are also Italians, Chinese, Persian, Japanese etc etc .

Id advise you to book ahead for any of these restaurants.
