How easy is it to get to Chatelaillon Plage from la Rochelle by train, and how much does it cost? Are the trains frequent?

The train journey only takes around 10 minutes and the service looks to be quite reasonable for local French rail services - about every couple of hours during the day and more frequently in busy times. You can find the timetables on www.voyages-sncf.com

as well as stopping at La Rochelle Station, the train now starts at the new station Porte Dauphine in the north of town (handy for points nearer Place de Verdun).

oops forgot - at the moment the train service is not as frequent as the bus service (16 ) but obviously takes a bit longer....

How long does it take by bus? I assume it leaves from Place de Verdun? Any idea of the cost?

Yep starts at place de verdun, but goes through town and stops at the station if that's more convenient for you.I think all journeys are still 1.20€, and it takes about 20 - 30 mins (most of that is spent getting through town!) Its not a long journey really.

It stops off at Carrefour on the way too.

I suggest you keep both train and bus timetables handy and use either depending on when you are travelling.

Thanks for all the help. Hope we'll manage both a train and bus journey this year.
