Am flying in to CDG airport Paris and then need to get to a small town between Angouleme and Limoges. Is it necesary / advisable to pre-book a train ticket / seat on either of these routes?
Thank you.

Edited: 11 years agoFor the best prices, book direct with the train operator as far ahead as possible. Tickets go on sale 3 months before travel, and the cheapest tickets sell out quickly. Prices keep going up as the travel date gets closer.
You can get train times and costs, and make bookings, in English at http://www.tgv-europe.com/en but use Antarctic as the "Ticket collection country" on the first screen to avoid being transferred to RailEurope, which has higher prices and does not list all the trains. For notes on online booking, see http://www.nickbooth.id.au/Tips/FrenchTrain.htm
Yes it is always best to book in advance as the Paris to Angouleme route can be packed full of commuters at times.
One tip is to compare the prices between normal class and first class... often first class is cheaper - crazy but true!
Thank you both - Booking made now.

Hi, how long does the train, stop for us to disembark . I'd be traveling with senior citizens and a toddler. Also what if we buy the ticket in advance but because of plane delay, not make it in time for the train. Can we go on the next train with the tickets?
Another question which is not related to the train is how one might buy a SIM card at CDG airport.
The train stops for a few minutes: long enough for people to get off and on. If you buy the cheapest discounted ticket, it is worthless if you miss the train. More expensive tickets have some flexibility. Read the T&C before you buy a ticket.
Be ready before the train stops to disembark. You won't have much time, and it will be a bit chaotic as people grab their luggage from the storage racks at the ends of the car. Whether or not you can get on a train different from the one you booked depends on the type of ticket you've purchased. PREMs, the cheapest, are nonexchangeable and nonrefundable. Other types of tickets are partly or fully reimbursable and refundable, but of course they cost more. The best thing to do is allow yourself plenty of time between the stated landing time of your plane and boarding the train.
Go to any Relay store in CDG to buy a SIM.

Hi
Im trying to buy my tickets Paris/Angouleme return for June/July. Its still too early for the July return ticket. Im wondering if I should just buy the one way in June and the other later or should I buy the return tickets when it is open for booking for July later. Would there be a saving for a return ticket ?
There are no return tickets in France. You can book a return journey, but you get 2 one-way tickets and there is no price reduction. Buy your tickets as they become available.
