Most Central Area......

Will be arriving in the Loire in September and just wondering if Saumur and surrounding would be the most central area.? We are arriving from Paris and heading to Brittany. We will only have two days in the Loire. Can anyone suggest a good chateau to stay at?

We would like to visit some Chateau (perhaps Chennonceaux ) and some good wineries in the area before heading to Brittany. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Coming from Paris to the Loire will ordinarily land you in Tours, or at St. Pierre des Corps, just outside of Tours. There, you can hire a car and either drive to Saumur, or find somewhere closer to Chenonceau to stay. The chateau is east of Tours, and a good 2 and a half hours drive from Saumur. I live close to Saumur and agree it's a very lovely place to stay, but if you only have 2 days here, and you want to visit Chenonceau (in my eyes unmissable), and want to do some wine tasting too, then the area around Tours would suit your itinerary better. Sample beautiful wines in the Vouvray area, just outside of Tours.
