Chinon? Amboise? Loches?

We will only have 4 nights to visit the chateaux before we head south toward Rouffignac Cave and Sarlat.

What town do you recommend? We'll have a car and aren't determined to see even two chateaux a day, but we'd like to get a good taste of the area.

Thanks for any advice you can share.

I recommend these hotels:

http://www.chateau-du-breuil.fr/

http://www.chateaudelabarre.com/

Amboise is flooded with tourists and its restaurants, for the most part, are tourist oriented - overpriced and of average quality. The only restaurant in Amboise worth dinning in is l´Epicerie (outside to the very high end château restaurants).

Both Loches and Chinon are a bit away from the main tourist draws but I particularly like Loches.

We enjoyed staying at La Bihouderie in Azay-sur-Indre, which was not far from Loches. While you're in the area, you may also want to go to Montresor.

We have stayed in aJoue-les-Tours (On the outskirts fo Tours) at the Chateau de Beaulieu. We liked the location because it seemed central ( we could get to either Amboise or Chinon, Blois in less than an hour)

the the Cateau is charming, the restaurant excellent, andit overlooks the city of Tours. It's not "out of the way" but has a very country-side feel

(chateaudebeaulieu@wanadoo.fr). I am sure they have a we-site also
