Transportation Paris to Giverny/ Monet Garden info please

Hello!

My daughter and I would love to get to Giverny to visit Monet Gardens. We are leaving from the Opera area (1st district) in Paris. Does anyone know how to get there by train / public transport? We are planning our day and also would like info on timing on how long transport time is, tour etc...

THANKS so much!

Walk or take the Metro to Gare St Lazare, which is not far from Opera. Take a train to Vernon. Buses meet the trains to take you to Giverny. The train journey takes around 45 minutes, the bus maybe another 15.

No, you won't be going directly to Giverny from the Eiffel Tower by train.

You'll follow the directions detailed in post #1 by SydneyNick, as that's the ONLY way to get there.

when you get to Vernon hustle to the bus as it does fill up and some people either don't get on board or are left standing in the aisles for the trip. For the return, be at the bus stop 20 minutes or so ahead of the scheduled time if you want a seat.

and you might want to pick up the train ticket a day or two ahead as the line to buy can be very long -- it took us 1.5 hours in line last summer -- the machines work great for Europeans, but not with American credit cards -- you can get them at any station, not just St. Lazare although the train departs from there

Trains to and from Vernon are not frequent. You need to plan your day around the timetables, preferably arriving at Giverny before it opens to beat the worst of the crowds. You can return to Paris on an early afternoon train or spend the entire day in Giverny and Vernon, having a wander and visiting the Impressionism museum. You can walk to Giverny from Vernon, a pleasant stroll, or rent bikes.

You can find train timetables at www.tgv-europe.com but select any English-speaking country *other than* the US as your "home" and ticket delivery country to avoid being redirected to another site with incomplete timetables and higher fares.

There is no advantage to booking online as the fares do not vary and seats are not reserved. Just go to any SNCF ticket window to buy your tickets preferably ahead of time as suggested.
