Bayeux hotels - fully booked for next year?

Hi:

We plan to arrive by train the night before for our tour of the beaches the next day, in late May of 2013. It seems that most of the hotels in the town of Bayeux are fully booked when I used booking.com or venere.com, which makes me wonder if I am trying to book too early, or if there is a special event going on during that time? If fully booked, what other alternatives do we have in terms of accommodation for a night? Our budget is around 80-90 euro/night. This is our first trip to Europe, and we will be coming from Amsterdam to go to Bayeux, and then leaving from Paris. Any advice/suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

Personally, I always contact hotels in France directly. I do not use search engines or third parties for making reservations, particularly for small, individually owned hotels. However, you may want to try hotel associations for vacancies and reservations:

I do think you are going onto the booking sites too early; this has happened to me in the past.I agree with Sarastro-call directly

I expect you just are 'twirly' too early!

However how late in late May are you looking?? D-Day being only 6th June - perhaps people are 'gearing up' for that... (2013 is not a 'special' Anniversary though, as far as I am aware)

You can find all the accommodation available in Bayeux by looking on the town's tourist office website:

If the message says "no availability" this doesn't necessarily mean that the accommodation is full.....it may simply mean that the dates are not up and running yet.

Even the "D-Day dates" for an "ordinary" year don't get booked this far in advance. I have had a couple of bookings already for June next year and I am staggered by it, it is so unusual and so early. The reason you are getting no availability is definitely due to you being too early on the booking sites.

Back in March I was looking for a hotel for a D-day trip, and when the booking engines showed no availability, I emailed 2 directly and both were available. I ended up booking 2 nights at the Reine Mathilde which was very nice and would fit in your budget.

As other poster said, it is probably too early.

Well, everyone was correct, I was trying to get a room too early. I emailed a couple of hotels in Bayeux, including Hotel Reine Mathilde, and they do have rooms for next year, which is definitely a relief.

Thank you all for your advice and suggestions.
