Paris-Bayeux: train or car?

It seems that there is construction on Paris to Bayeux trains from St. Lazare station. Am I right that it is going to take four hours with two changes? Would it be better to rent a car for our four nights' stay in Bayeux? Is there someplace accessible by metro that would get us outside of central Paris to rent a car so that we wouldn't have to navigate Paris traffic?

I think you are getting 2 changes and a 4 hour travel time for September bookings because work will have started on the Paris-Caen rail tracks by that time, so a car woud definitely be your best option.
