St Aubin -sur-Mer ?

I wondered if anyone has some info on this town and immediate area? It's an area of France I've never been to.

We have an option to stay for a long weekend and wonder is it a good destination in early April for a couple with a 12 year old child?

The accomodation is on a mobile home park anddsays '5 min walk to village with lovely promenade and beach, with bike hire and bike routes- is this fair comment?

Also, if this is a good option, does the town have any nice bistro style restaurants?

If we go for it any recommendations on a day trip?

Thanks in advance.

I've been to a camp site near there and it's pleasant enough but not spectacular. The only drawback would be the somewhat unreliable weather. A big advantage is the closeness to Caen port and also Chebourg, so a short journey if your ferry goes to either.

The Normandy beaches are a very obvious day trip, but further afield is Mont St-Michel. You might also conside Bayeux itself.

I've passed through St. Aubin. There is a nice promenade.

Bayeux is beautiful and is ideal for a day trip. Its not too far away, the tapestry is fab, and you can walk around the town - parts of it are medieval and really beautiful. Bayeux has some beautiful restaurants as well.

That whole area is brilliant - you are so near the D-Day sites, you must visit some of them.

Thanks for your input.

it doesn't sound conclusive, I'm still unsure about this, thinking maybe it would be better in the summer. Our young daughter won't be interested in War sites.

My wife and our children have stayed there many times, including the campsite when the children were younger.

We go back regularly, the beach is excelent, the promanade (2KM) is a nice walk before or after dinner. For a special meal try the Closnormande, otherwise there are plenty of smaller resteraunts. Days out include the Pagasus Bridge & museum, Caen, Bayeux or walk to Luc sur Mer.

I am organising another weekend break to St Aubin sur Mer, we will probably stay at Hotel Le Lighthouse in early May, As we live on the south coast, we will travell by car, fom Portsmouth to Ouistreham (another nice town) and return from Cherbourg to Poole.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

For anyone intending to stay at the Yelloh Cote de Nacre caravan/campsite, make sure you don't get a pitch anywhere near the reps tents and when I mean near, 1/2 mile should do the trick. The Key Camp, Campus and Thompson reps are all kids who spend their evenings and nights, getting drunk, playing loud music and shouting. We were woken up regularly at 2am, 3am, 4am. That's if we could actually get to sleep. The park staff don't seem to care. Avoid!!
