24hours in Toulouse

Hi there, I'll be spending 1 day and 1 night in toulouse in early october before heading to carcassone for 24hours. Just looking for any tips or advice how best to spend the time.... any must see attractions or city tours worth doing? Will be out at night as well so any recommendations on bars/clubs to visit would also be appreciated. It will be mid-week so I obviously dont expect wild nightlife but would just be looking to take in somewhere fairly busy with a good atmosphere.

Thanks in advance!!

Toulouse is quite a lvely city not least beause of its large student population. Near te Tourist Office is the main square which is one of the most impressive in France, and a good place for a coffee or omething stronger in one of the cafes around its arcaded side. There are a network of narrow streets off this and several spectacular old churches. Check out www.uk.tolouse-tourisme.com (or drom theuk. bit if you are OK with the French original).

Hi!

Well there are plenty of things to do in Toulouse. You can first visit the city hall (Capitole), it's free, and have a look at St Sernin Church which is a work of art of Romanic style.

Then wander around and enjoy the lively city center: the busiest streets are Rue du Taur (between St Sernin and Capitole), rue St Rome (starting from Capitole), place St Georges nearby.. just do not hesitate to wander around the tiny brick streets starting from rue St Rome and place St Georges they are the heart of the city! Rue Alsace Lorraine is more modern but good for shopping is you have any interest in that.

You can check out Hotel d'Assezat which is one of the Renaissance mansions that there are in Toulouse (and is now a museum), have a look at St Etienne cathedral and nearby streets (more poshy but artisty neighbourhood), les Jacobins and the Daurade church and the view on the river from there are a must as well.

If you are interested in nightlife, go straight to Place St Pierre next to the river.

Well i guess that's a good start, and enought for a good walk in one day!

If you have any questions, just don't hesitate!
