Touring Toulouse alone.

Hello everyone! My husband might be sent to Toulouse for work soon and I am going with him for the week. What would be some fun things to do for a single woman alone in the city? I do not speak French but plan on buying a French/English phrase book and will try to brush up on very basic things to say. Will I have a difficult time getting around the city? Is it a big city?

The hotel where we will be staying is outside of the city but my husband says there is a train that will take you straight into Toulouse.

I am very excited about visiting and having the days to myself there. I really want to spend the time absorbing the culture and would love to even meet some locals for chatting (if I could find someone who speaks ok English!)

thank you!

These websites should give you some ideas of what you can see or do in Toulouse.

Perhaps you should try a Cookery Class for meeting people:

Is it not possible that you could meet up with some of the families of the folk your husband will be working with while he is there?? Perhaps then you will meet someone to 'go about' with, and you can all have a great time I hope??

Try and learm some basic 'tourist' French before you go though, you will find even a few words will make a lot of difference.

Time Out has some useful snippets about the City as well, and suggests that the Centre is very 'walkable':

Hi there

I live about 25 minutes from Toulouse, I am English, but lived in NJ for 4 years before moving to France. If you need any help I would be delighted to try and lend a hand. Let me know what sort of things you are interested in, markets, museums etc etc and I will try to make some suggestions.

I can be contacted via my website - http://www.lemoulinpastelier.com

You will love Toulouse, it is a beautiful city.

thank you for all your help everyone! It turns out my husband is not being sent to Toulouse just yet.. but knowing his job.. he could be sent back again in 6 months time... so I will keep all this information handy for the next time!

thank you again and Donna... I will definitely contact you when we do end up going to Toulouse! I'd love to get together with someone who speaks English yet knows the area well.
