Driving from Lourdes to Rocamadour

We are considering whether to rent a car to drive from Lourdes to Rocamadour. I would appreciate it if a member can advise on the road conditions and if it is an easy drive to travel. Would the traffic be heavy or light and is it easy enough to navigate through the various towns. I am aware it would be a 4-5 hour trip by car.

Kind regards

Paul

The Michelin site will give you approximate times, tolls, scenic routes.

We have had four trips to France. The autoroutes are quick and easy to use but you will not be seeing picturesque villages etc. We enjoy driving the smaller roads. We have not visited Lourdes, but have been to areas around the region. You should not have any problems driving. We have the Michelin road atlas and on later trips, a GPS.

Good luck.

Hi Paul we drove there from Lourdes and yes it was under five hours. It's an amazing place we have gone back since and will return again. We used GPS some of the roads were quiet narrow but in general very good.

If you take the A-64/A-20 you won't hit any narrow roads until you exit, and then only a few kilometers. It won't be a pretty ride, but it will get you there quickly. Roads in France are very well maintained. Do check the Michelin site, though, so you'll be prepared for the tolls.

Your credit card may not work... be sure to have small bills and coins and use the manned booths.

You will see much more if you avoid the autoroutes altogether and take the smaller roads. You'll see more.

It might require an overnight stop midway though. Driving in France is very enjoyable. For me at least.
