Hi

We are planning to stay in Montpellier next year. Please could someone advice me can we get to the nearby beaches on public transport? How far are they and which are the best beaches? Thanks

There are buses to both Carnon and Palavas.

Both are about 7km away.

Once out of the town stretch both extend 10+kms along wild beaches backed with sand dunes.

You can get a good idea of what to expect using Google.

Thanks for the useful info. I read somewhere earlier that these beaches are 'ugly' but it certainly don't look like it in the satellite pictures! I think the website I looked at said that the buildings around there are ugly but that doesn't bother me! Do you know how frequent the buses might be into central Montpellier? Thanks

The local buses have a website at : http://www.herault-transport.fr

The routes to check are 131 & 106 :

Should you really want to explore further, the 106 bus (be careful as there are actually two 106 buses) also connects Montpellier with La Grande Motte, le Grau du Roi and Aigues Mortes which has no beach but you should visit here none the less.

As far as the most attractive beach, I might say that would be l´Espiguette near le Grau du Roi.
