From Airport to Train Station

Hi,

I'm taking my parents on a long weekend to Nimes and Avignon next month, flying into Montpellier for the cheap prices on Ryan Air. Our plane is due to land at 20:30.

Will there be plenty of time to catch the 21:35 train to Nimes if we take a taxi to the station? There's also a 22:06 train, but Der Bahn lists it as requiring a reservation. Would we still be able to get tickets immediately beforehand if we miss the earlier train?

Many thanks.

When asking about trains, the date is very important. However, most days there are trains at 21h36, 22h06, and 22h50. The latter trains require reservations but you will normally have no problem purchasing tickets upon arrival (assuming your travel date is not on a holiday).

There are taxis usually available to take you to St Roch (the train station). Plan on 20€ and about 20 - 30 minutes en route. There is also a bus/tram available but not knowing the your travel date, you might want to ask the Office de Tourisme for schedules if you want to try this option:

Unfortunately the airport bus does not go by the railway station. It leaves at 2100 (ok if your flight is on time) and goes to Place D'Europe, arrival 21.15. From there it is only a 6 minute tram ride from the Gare St Roch but the trams (Line 1, direction Mosson) only run every 15 minutes at that time of the evening.

If everything works, it's just feasible to make the 2136.

If late, worried, raining etc I recommend a taxi direct to the station, which is what I did last time and Sarastro is correct with the estimated price.

Thanks for the quick responses. We'll be arriving on Friday 14th October; all the trains you mention are listed as running.

It sounds like we'll be OK then, probably for the 9:35 train or definately the10:35 train if not.. We'll definately get a taxi, maybe book one in advance to save on any risk of there not being one.

You should not be worry about Taxi. There will always be half dozen waiting for each arrival flight. We took a taxi from Mediterranean Airport to city centre and it cost us just under 25 euros and that was around 17:00. Traffic might be lighter if you arriving late.

My recommendation, day trip to Sete is a must!
