Carcassonne without a car

We will be in Carcassonne for a week at the end of July, without a car. Does anyone have good suggestions for river walks, boat trips or short train journeys we could do during our visit?

You could train to Limoux and Quillan, visit Toulouse or Narbonne.

See www.sncf.com for timetable.

By bus : Couiza, Esperaza, Caunes Minervois, etc...... See audelignes.cg11.fr/‎ and enter "Carcassonne" as "Montée".

Hi there, my husband and I spent a week in Carcassonne in June without a car. There are no long distance buses out of the town and we found the trains were pretty expensive, (The train station is undergoing a bit of building work so if you want to travel anywhere I would advise going to the booking office in good time to get your tickets - or even getting them the evening before. There are self-service machines but we found them to be a bit of a trial) We went to Albi (which was lovely) and Toulouse by train. You can also go to Limoux/Quillan for a euro- we didn't do that but it might be worth a try. The canal trips are lovely-very relaxing. There are a lot of nice walks along the canal banks and in the Cite (the lower town is quite interesting too) We enjoyed our stay in Carcassonne although the weather was not great but we did find the public transport (or lack of it!!) trying. All the best.
