Day Trips - villages?

Does anyone know anything about these villages? Opinions? Our "home base" will be Carcassonne:

Uzes

Pezenas

St. Guilhem-le-Desert

Roquebrun

Bages

Lagrasse

Minerve

Mirepoix

Olargue

Thank you in advance!

Thank you! Mirepoix sounds lovely, and as of now, Monday is our village/town day : )

By the way, I am just finishing the book Labyrinth, by Kate Mosse, which is a fun read that takes place in this area. It's fun, light reading that is a great way to orient myself for our trip!

Recently returned from Carcassonne & Montpellier (8 days) We travelled over 1000km and really enjoyed lots of places.

Top of the list was Pont Du Gard...then Carcassonne...... then Pezenas....then the Camargue.... then Arles...... then Aigues Morte ... then Grau du Roi....

I made a day trip to St. Guilhem-le-desert. It is definitely worth a vist. Very old town - quaint and certainly worth seeing. Also, as someone else mentioned, don't miss Le Pont du Gard!

From Carcassonne, consider a day trip heading south to see the cathar castles. They are incredible. Drive to Limoux (perhaps on your way back, an afternoon stop to taste Blanquette - an excellent local bubbly?), then make a loop to see the chateaux of Queribus and Peyrepertuse. If you have a bit more time, drive through the Gorges de Galamus - you'll never forget it!

You can take a train from Carcassonne to Collioure via Perpignan.

You can go by bus from Carcassonne to Lagrasse - see Transports Bourdier (phone: 04.68.47.85.20). The nearest train station is Lésignan (20 km).

Corbières is the name of the area.
