Must-see if you love French food

"Haute Cuisine" (Les Saveurs du Palais) is out on NetFlix-streaming in the US as of today and it's a wonderful, enchanting film. Everyone must see it if they are even curious about French food. It's based on a true story about the brief term of the private chef for President, François Mitterrand and her struggle to provide the President with what he hired her for, good, simple food from the southwest where he grew up. I was completely enraptured through the whole film. Must-see:

LOL - My sister and I started watching this over the weekend, but were interrupted and never had time to finish it. Thanks for the reminder. I'm anxious to see it.

Bonjour, Metromole,

We saw the film and enjoyed it! We were smart to eat before going. I agree with you.

I quite enjoyed the movie when I saw it, and I have indeed seen a number of reports by people who have seen it on video in the US over the last week or so. It should particularly appeal to those of you who are attracted to food porn, and I know that a lot of people here are.

Pretty negative K2. "Food Porn" would be the farthest from my reaction to the movie as one could get. I saw the movie in French and it was pretty but with the English subtitles in the American digital release so well written, I found it beautiful. Very little "food porn" in this movie, but a lot of beauty and soul.

No ortolans thankfully. Just a story about an amazing woman.

Yes! Saw it early this year on Air France. An amazing woman, indeed. And a good story well told.

Basically, any movie where the camera lingers lovingly over the dishes being prepared or served is now called "food porn." Not my choice of vocabulary, but I am generally overruled. Babette's Feast is called food porn as well, and it is a remarkable movie.

Reality TV is where "food porn" was born. This is a serious film that has no connection with that shallow world. I hope people reading this thread will consider this outstanding film and ignore this dribble.
