Paris Apartment Rental-Words of Wisdom?

Hi, I'm going to Paris in September and plan on staying for nine days. I saw some aparment deals on Flipkey and was hoping for a few more rental site recommendations?

Also, the owner for one site asked for me to send the deposit via swiss transfer net bank fees or mail a bank draft. Can anyone explain this?

Overall, I'd just love some advice on getting the best bang for my buck for nine days.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sometimes renting a vacation apartment is not all about getting the "best bang for your buck". I know that I'd rather pay a little bit extra to rent an apartment from a known, and well reviewed owner over choosing something that seems to be a better deal.

If you take some time and read through or search the forum you will find a lot of information on this subject along with suggested rental agencies.

For more specific recommendations it would be helpful to know how many are traveing and what your budget is in euros.

I rented an apartment with Frenchy Rentals. They were really very professional and friendly. I booked the apartment Marcadet II, that particular apartment was exactly as the pictures on their website. I sent a deposit with the rest due I think a few weeks before arrival. I know I was a bit nervous paying up front but I paid by credit card so I knew I would be covered. Of course all was alright and i got my deposit back about 7 days after getting home. Never send money by wire transfer. If you look up advice on rentals this is repeated time and time again. My advice find an apartment on a different site that you vp can use a credit to pay.

Hi, racegirl, you're right. I guess I mean that I want to feel like I'm getting to live like a Parisian, but I also want a competitive rate and a nice place.

My budget in Euros is between 600-800. There will be two of us so we are looking for a bed and a let out or twin beds, either is fine. We will be staying in the city and venturing to Versailles for a day of sightseeing.

What do you think? Thank you for your help.

Note that September is a very busy month in Paris and the most appealing properties book far in advance.

Also, 600-800 Euros for nine nights is a rather low budget.

It is not uncommon for payment to be requested via bank transfer net of fees or bank draft. But, there are plenty of resources where payment can be done with a credit card, PayPal, etc.

As mentioned, there are many topics with plenty of tips for choosing a vacation apartment and recommended agencies.

Beware of embellished listings and those which exaggerate the "central" location. Find it on a map and check distances.

When you've narrowed your search to a few properties, it's useful to post the links here so experienced people can point out pluses or minuses you may have not noticed.

Thank you for telling me about the budget. I looked at some weekly prices and came up with that number. I will keep researching because I do want to be realistic.

Quite a few posters here have rented thru CentreParis and had good results. They have a lot of units in your price range.

I recently booked this well-reviewed apartment in the 2nd for 9 nights in May for 640 Euro. http://www.vrbo.com/324964 For some reason the daily rate is listed there as 140 Euro/night but, at least in May, I was quoted much less. It has a loft bed and a convertible sofa. Reserving was easy, I paid a 100 Euro depostit via Paypal, the rest to be paid in cash on arrival.

You'll get a lot of recommendations from others here, as well. I've stayed with Paris At Home twice and the experience was wonderful.

I'm not sure if they fit within your budget, but you can check them out here:
