What brands/shops to recommend for shopping @ Paris?

Hi, going Paris 2nd time but i dont want to buy things like Louis Vuitton Chanel, etc.

Thinking of getting some good but relatively 'normal' pricing clothes/leather goods etc

Any brands to recommend?

I'm also looking for hotels so i'm not sure if these 3 hotels, which one is good

Waldorf Madeleine Hotel

Best Western Premier Opera Diamond

Mercure Paris Opéra Garnier

I've tried google map but some shops dont know what they are selling because the screenshot doesnt come close to the windows display

Any advices are appreciated

Thank you very much

Normal is very relative.

Normal prices for me are Zara, GAP and Monoprix.

More expensive, but totally fashion and very French are brands like BA&SH, MAJE, Sandro, Comptoir des Cotoniers.

There is lots of shopping in the Opera/Grands Boulevards area. I like Zara, Mango, Etam, Promod, Kookai. Also MOtivi, Pimkie and NafNaf (sometimes. if they don't have too much polyester). Pricier and more preppy, there's a big LaCoste store not too far from you. Shoes - Andre and San Marina I think both have presence in the Grands Boulevards? Lingerie - TamTam is really fun, and Aubade.

For serious shopping, I like the mall at La Defense. The department stores Printemps and Galeries Lafayette are tourists favorites, m stop Auber.

oh I forgot to state my 'normal' pricing

probably clothings less than 70-80EUR, leather goods less than 500EUR?

Thank you.

I will check out the other stores mentioned too but will avoid USA brands since i think they are much more expensive in Europe?

(i'm not from USA though).

I've seen a few European brands in Singapore shopping malls. I believe you guys have Kookia, Zara, Mango, Lacoste, even Zadig & Voltaire, which my hubby loves, and we can't find in OZ, so I'm not sure you will find any uniquely European brands that you won't be able to get back home. We did wander down the streets of Le Marais though and found some cool stuff, with names I've never seen in either Malaysia, Singapore or OZ.

If you're into makeup, there's lots to choose from in Paris, and I believe the prices are better than SG. They were definitely better than OZ.

We made the mistake of visiting Galeries Lafayette when we were there last year in July, right smack in the middle of the sales. It seemed like it was tourist central, and heaps of locals were there trying to bag a bargain. While it was not a total loss - I managed to snag myself a bargain (a Burberry trench at half price), the queues and people were crazy, especially if you plan to get the VAT refund paperwork as well.

We also visited Le Bon Marche when we were there and really liked it. If you want a department store experience, I highly recommend this over Lafayette and Printemps (which I've heard is pretty much the same as Lafayette).

I agree completely about Lafayette, the crowds always make me want to run as quickly as possible :) It's not too bad in early morning though....Otherwise, you could also check out the BHV department store, cheaper than Bon Marche and not too crowded.

I have visited Lafayette and Printemps where there;s a chanel nearby and i end up getting nothing. I went ard 10-12noon so maybe thats why i didnt see crowd

I will check out Le Bon Marche. I only see Zara, Mango n Lactose in SG. no idea abt the other 2 and no idea if Zara/Mango is cheaper in Europe or SG but i think i will skip those that can be found at home if pricing isnt that much of different. Not sure if April is sales though... i think no? hopefully.

Thank you

Sadly no, April is not sales time. Zara in Europe I find lots cheaper than in OZ or Malaysia, so I'd assume it will be cheaper than SG as u guys are usually more expensive than Malaysia. Don't know about Mango.

Zadig & Voltaire we saw at Marina Bay shopping centre, I think that's what it's called - the one opposite the casino. If not, check it out. The brand has cool designs, IMO.

Slightly off topic but I recently posted a thread on depot-vente shopping if you're interested in that. There are website links to some of the stores to show what they have available.

Slightly funny story, off topic but I thought I'd share. When we were at Lafayette, we saw a french woman pushing her dog along in what was akin to a baby stroller, while doing her shopping. We're dog lovers and found that highly amusing.

Other than the budget, there is style and taste to consider, the large department stores cater to young and old and sell various brands, including many of the ones mentioned. At Galeries Lafayette there is Zara, Promod, Kookai, NafNaf (polyester? that's in teen shops like Etam and Jennifer, not really NafNaf), maje, Sandro... plus there is a good selection of purses and an entire floor dedicated to footwear.

Next sales are the summer sales, from June 27th to July 31st this year, from what I read. I've been to the last few sales and many shops were very busy, BHV was quite crowded but had more stuff left than GL.

Nearest shopping street to where you are staying might be a good place to start.
