Paris for 4 days january 23ish. Will it be a good time to v

Husband and I usually go to Alta in January but now thinking of a 4 day trip to Paris. He has never been and me only as a backpacker. Will we have enough to do? We love to walk, window shop and eat good meals (like in NYC) . I am hoping it will be magical in January but want to hear opinions. I would love to find a smaller, luxurious hotel in a charming part of town (would that be Latin Quarter?) I have connections for a cheap room at the Marriott but may want something really special. Thank you in advance.

I can't help you about a hotel as I don't do "luxurious" ..such hotels would likely be located in St Germain (6th district), in the 8th arrondissement, by Place des Vosges (4th district) rather than in the Latin Quarter as this area is the traditional university students grounds...not the haunt of the rich and famous..

What is your hotel budget in Euros? over Euros 250 per night?

January in Paris is not the most pleasant month...expect cold grey skies, wind..short days...if the sun shine it will be a bonus.

"Will we have enough to do?" actually it will be very hard to make an itinerary for 4days that give you time to see a bakers' dozen of the thousands of sights in Paris..

Paris is a city that is ideally explored on foot and January is not the best time of year because it's cold enough. By cons, you arrive at moments of great sales with some great prizes.

As it has been often pointed on this forum, don't go along star rating. Hotels get stars according to amenities they have, such as an on-site restaurant, and not for true qualities. 3-star hotels can be as charming and luxurious as 4-star hotels.

Hotel Select is a nice design hotel at Sorbonne in the Latin Quarter, close to many sights of interest: http://paris-hotel-select.com

It is popular and rates well on TA.

The Latin Quarter is a charming area. It's central and very lively. That's right that January is not the best month to visit Paris considering the weather, but the advantage is the sales and that there are less tourrists! As to the hotels I can advise you a few, like the Odeon St-Germain. It's right next ot the Latin Quarter, and st-germain area is great as well! This is a beautiful 3star, decorated in a sophisticated way, with beautiful beds, and fitted carpets. The service is excellent. This is a good value for money. http://www.hotelparisodeonsaintgermain.com/ . The hotel Delavigne has a great location, it's right close to the Luxembourg Garden in the Latin Quarter. The decor is elegant, warn. My room was really comfortable and pleasant. The staff is fine, polite :). http://www.hoteldelavigne.com/ . And the hotel Villa St-Germain. This one is a 4star tastefully decorated. The deluxe room I booked was spacious, and really comfortable. The staff is nice, efficient. This is a good place! http://hotelvillasaintgermain.com/ .

I hope you will find what you are looking for!

The hotel de l'Abbaye is very special, there's an iside garden where you can have breakfast of coffee or you can do that in your room. Certain rooms have outside patios! You can look at some pictures make up your own mind about the hotel: www.hotelabbayeparis.com - it's in a very nice location, right next to the Luxembourg garden! Hope this helps!
