May 1st is a major national holiday and because of this all public transportation will be operating on its Sunday & Holiday (Dimanche et Jours Fériés) schedule. As example, Metro lignes that might normally run with a 2-4 min frequency between trains, might run at 4-6 mins. Not really a big deal. If there is a remarkable difference it will be in the schedules for the regular public buses. Here service on most bus routes will be much more severly curtailed or discontinued.

Most shops are closed so plan accordingly. Also many museums close. Restaurants : you should not starve, they won't all close.
