I'm going to be in Paris for a few days and I want to get a feel for french life.
1. If you are in Paris before early October, there won't be any university students in town, they'll be on vacation
2. In Paris, there is no such thing as a campus. The universities are within town, and students are just part of the social fabric
3. Having said that, a few areas are more "student heavy" than others. Such as the famous Quartier Latin. Two typically student cafés would be the ones on the place de la Sorbonne, L'Escholier and the other one whose name escapes me. There is also a new university area next to the Bibliothèque nationale de France in the 13th, métro François Mitterrand.
Many times students hung out at cafe near/next door to their shool.
Cite Uninersitaire, quartier latin, Boulevard Saint Michel...
School is not in session at the moment, so maybe not so easy to spot packs of students
My impression is that many students hang out in the late afternoon at any of the three bars that surround the Place Contrascarpe. It's the relatively inexpensive beer, pin-balls machine, and a few street performers and music there at that time.
