Best Louvre entrance with Museum Pass?

We will have museum passes and don't want to stand in line at the Louvre. When would be the best time to go and which entrance would be the best to use?

You don't even need a museum pass at the Louvre. The best entrance is on Rue de Rivoli under a red and white vertical banner which says "Carrousel." Once inside the door, you take the escalator down the stairs and then walk along the path with shops on both your left and right sides. You will come out into a huge open-area room and there will be machines on your right-hand side where you can purchase your ticket(s) to the Louvre. Then you will pick which Wing of the museum you wish to enter, stand in a very short security line and then IN YOU GO! It is as easy as that.

But if you do have a Museum Pass you can avoid the potential crowds of the main entrance by using the entrance located in the Passage Richelieu... which is the arched passageway connecting the Rue de Rivoli and the main "Pyramid" square.

My group used the Museum Pass last year and the best entrance is the one on the Rue de Rivioli. Go to the museum website to print out a map. If you have never been there before, be aware it is a HUGE museum with many stairs. If anyone is stair challenged, check with the main desk to see if you can be accomodated via elevator. There are escalators but because of the age of the building and the fact it was expanded several times, the levels have stairs connecting them.

The line you encounter is the security check. If you go in the carousel entrance, the line should be shorter (if any). The pyramid entrance often has a (long) line. Once you are through security, you walk through the shopping mall to the inside of the pyramid entrance, where tickets are sold. You enter any of the wings (no lines) from here.

The Orsay has a separate security check for pass holders and other special people (members, etc).

Is the separate line for pass holders clearly marked?

There isn't a special line for passholders from what I remember; you just go directly to the security line (you'll see bags being checked). No way to bypass this but it's a shorter line. Frankly, we never saw big lines even at the Pyramid, which is so beautiful to enter and leave from there. Maybe on Monday afternoon it was a long line, but we also went on Wed. and Fri. nights and it wasn't crowded, just walked right in. We liked the pass because we stayed near the Louvre and we went all four days of the pass for a little while each day, we didn't have to cram the Louvre in one day on a ticket.
