6 hours of transfer time in Paris (CDG) - recommendations?

Hello!

we will have about 6-7 hours between the flights in Paris (CDG airport). I was wondering whether it's enough to get to and back from the city and have a little excursion over the city (any organized bus/boat excursions)?

Any shared experience, suggestions, and recommendations would be helpful and very much appreciated!

Thanx a lot in advance!!

Try to catch the earlier flight out of NYC on standby. That way, you'll have more than 6-7 hours to roam about.

Under ideal circumstances, you can get off a plane, go through customs and jump in the RER and be in central Paris in about one hour flat. That's my record. If you had to get back to catch a plane, getting to the airport two hours early, that leaves you only about three hours to loiter in Paris.

It may be painful to recognize but a six hour layover really is long enough to make visiting Paris worth much. Assunming that your flight arrives on time and your luggage is being checed through to your onward flight, you still must deplane and pass through French Immigration (30-45 mins) then get into Paris (45-60 mins) then get back out to CDG (45-60 mins) and check-in and pass through security back at CDG (90-120 mins) at an absolute minimum, that's 3-3 1/2 of your six hours gone---without any margin for delay or error.

Bring a portable DVD player and a Paris DVD and watch it or re-read Hemingway's '..A Moveable Feast..'in the In-Transit lounge while you wait.
