Need some advice on what there is to do in Saulieu

So we are doing a bike tour of Burgundy and will be spending 2 nights at the Relais Bernard Loiseau. We have a lay day there to relax.

Is the hotel right in the town?

One person likes shopping (little shops, etc, not big fancy ones) - is this a town where she can wander around and go in a few little shops? Or would she have to go to a other town and how far is that?

So some in our group are not big "foodies" and do not want to have a gourmet meal 2 nights in a row.....

Is there a charming, casual place for those people to eat that is nearby (walking perhaps or short taxi ride).......a place for a glass of wine and soup and appetizer sort of thing?

Any advice is most appreciated!

Questions such as 'where is such and such located?' or 'what is near this and that?' are easily answered using Google Maps. Here's a link to one of Saulieu:

Your hotel is demoted with the "A" marker. Pull the little yellow stick person onto the map... any roads that turn blue are covered by Streetview... drop the yellow figure and you can take a virtual walk and see exactly what's on the street...

We have just been to Saulieu; there is nothing to do there. There are a few shops that cater to the locals' needs (among them two that sell fishing tackle), and three decidedly scruffy looking brocante shops; all were closed (in the middle of the tourist season). The town has a dreadfully rundown appearance. As far as my family and I are concerned, this is not a town that warrants a visit.
