My wife and I are travelling by car and intend to spend 6 nights exploring Burgundy & Champagne commencing 23 July. We are coming from Provence & had intended to split our time between Beaune and Rheims but would prefer one base. From TA it looks like Beaune is VERY busy with tourists at this time, albeit with good access to the major roads.
We are thinking of a Gite (or hotel or B&B) from which we can access both Burgundy and Champagne areas that is in a quiet village . We will be doing a dash to Calais when we leave. My thoughts are (maybe) Chatillon-sur-Seine or Buncy.
* Are these villages too isolated?
* Is a day-trip to Vezelay do-able?
* Can we do day trips to Beaune and Eperney from this area?
* Is the Loire within reach?
