Paris to Beaune

My husband and I are looking for an inexpensive way to get from Paris CDG airport to Beaune and once there we are interested in a place to stay...and from there to Marseille.

You can take a fast TGV train from CDG to Lyon Part Dieu station, and change there to a local train to Beaune.

To get from Beaune to Marseille, take a local train back to Lyon, and change to a TGV.

You can get train times and costs, and make bookings, in English at www.tgv-europe.com/en . However, if you are from America, do not say so. Tell the site you are from Great Britain, to avoid being directed to another site with much higher prices.

Tickets go on sale 90 days before travel, and the cheaper tickets usually sell out quickly.

To all intents and purposes there are no long distance buses in France. You either take the train fly, drive, cycle or walk...

The best and cheapest way is by train to Dijon from CDG (2hours) and then a train to Beaune (20min) I've made a fake booking in April and could get one way for 23.80€ with Prems tickets. It would cost more than 60€ for a 4h40 trip CDG/Lyon/Beaune. Use http://www.voyages-sncf.com; Rail Europe is more expensive. The only thing is there is only one train at 11h20 to Dijon and the next one is at 19h30 from CDG.

If you choose to go through Dijon in the middle of the day you'll find lots of TGV leaving from Gare de Lyon (in Paris not in Lyon!).

If you wish to visit Dijon (what a good idea!) the tourist office is outside the train station between the left luggage office and Quick restaurant. Buy "the owl's trail" brochure 2.5€ and follow the steps to the 22 main sites in Dijon, the brochure will explain each site. travelsignposts.com/Destination/…

After an hour or two, if you still want to go to Beaune, take a train ;-).

Thank you so much for your reply and research. We would not think of missing Dijon as it is lovely but we are meeting people who live in Beaune. What do think about car rental from Paris to Dijon?

would anyone suggest Paris to Dijon to Beaune , stay overnight in Beaune and then travel to Loire Valley the next day? Any suggestions for accomodations in Beaune or Loire Valley (saumur ) area?

No, I would not.

Virtually any travel from Beaune to the Loire Valley will require your returning to Paris and transfer there. Most likely you will arrive Gare de Lyon and depart from either Gare Austerlitz (a short walk away) or from Montparnasse.

Once you have looked at the en route times, you may agree that it is a enormous about of travel for just two days.

>>>Should we just consider travel to Loire Valley, and Burgundy<<<

Dijon and Beaune are both in Burgundy. If you could give us a more specific idea of what it is you want to accomplish and in what time frame we might be able to help you with specific suggestions.

>>>What about flying from beaune to Paris?<<<

Beaune is only about 250 km and about 2 hours by train from Paris and in any case does not have a commercial airport.
