There are hundreds of places worth visiting in Burgandy and Alsace, and you cannot possibly visit all of them in 2 days. You need to read a guide book and decide which places would interest you.

The best method of travel would be by train. The cost will depend on exactly where you will be travelling to and from. You can get train times and costs, and make bookings, in English at www.tgv-europe.com/en but use Antarctic as the "Ticket collection country" in the first screen to avoid the possibility of being transferred to RailEurope, which has higher prices and does not list all the trains. For notes on online booking, see www.nickbooth.id.au/Tips/FrenchTrain.htm

Agreed it is too much to do in two days - one would required just to go between them!

Burgundy is very French, whilst Alsace of course has a strong Germanic influence.

Toss a coin and pick one.

Whilst I love both, I'd suggest you go to Colmar (Alsace) and take a day to drive the wine route. Fairy tale perfect villages, castles, vineyards....

If Burgundy is your choice, I'd suggest Beaune as your home base. Again, beautiful villages, chateus (du Roche Pot is lovely) and vineyards.
