Accommodation, places to visit

Looking for self catering accommodation for early September in Biarritz. Also looking for places to visit including Spain- best towns/villages, wine tours, caves, scenic drives, etc.

Spain: drive to Bilbao, have lunch, visit Guggenheim, explore. Drive to San Sebastian and have dinner there. Drive the 50 km back to your accommodation. Study for nice places to eat, book in advance. As Spain is close, you can make several trips if you like.

Spain is also the place to go for the wine, basquecountry-tourism.com/routes-wine-route.… …wikipedia.org/wiki/Vignobles_du_Pays_basque

Further, regarding French wine & spirits, from Biarritz it is about 200 km to the SW parts of Bordeaux wine region, e.g. Graves and Sauternes, and a bit less to Armagnac brandy region, as well as some 130 km to Jurancon area (a small AOC with sweet dessert wines).

Some examples of rentals, for 4 people in this case:

A possible full day trip. there is a series of small roads taking you to Arcachon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcachon) in the north in 3+ hours

See route: http://goo.gl/maps/idRf9

These roads pass the huge Landes forests area and there are several small roads taking you to the shore of Bay of Biscay from that road.

Do not miss Dune du Pilat (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Dune_of_Pyla)

- But be warned, there are a lot of trees both sides of the road on that trip but you also pass some authentic villages.

You can drive back on the bigger and quicker roads to save time.j

There are a few apart-hotels to try:

La Colline Bleu - www.biarritz-collinebleue.com

Victoria Surf - www.victoriasurf.com

Le Grand Large - www.legrandlarge-biarritz.com

You can also book places to stay through the Biarritz tourism website:

www.biarritz.fr/

As well as San Sebastian visit Saint Jean de Luz. For wine there is one near Saint Jean Pied de Port (Irouleguy). In Spain the Rioja wine region isn't too far away.

Excellent recommendations. I will look these places up. Looking forward to my trip. I will also be going to Montpellier and hopefully go see the Millau bridge. Not sure that I am in the right forum but if anyone has suggestions for places to visit and accomodations on the way to and from Montpellier, it would be appreciated. Will have 7 or 8 days to go to Montpelleir and return to Biarritz. This will be around the 8th of September.
