Travelling by train in June, questions re train/town/bars.

Hello there!

I've booked a suprise trip to Paris mid June and want to get a train out to Bordeaux for 3 days.

Does anyone have any advice regarding wine tours? or the journey from Paris?

Or where to stay and eat etc?

Ideally I would like to stay near the water, avoid huge walks/taxi fares (due to slight mobility of partner, not disabled but leg strain after a few hundred yards) and find nice bars and restaurants close by.

Thanks in advance!!

Trains leave the Gare Montparnasse to Bordeaux frequently throughout the day and the trip can take around 3 to 3½ hours, depending on the number of stops it makes en route. Because these are TGV trains, you'll need reservations.

When you mention staying near the water, do you mean the Atlantic coast? If so, this means leaving Bordeaux city, which is about an hour's drive from the ocean. Should you wish to be along the coast, your best option (given the mobility issues) would be to look at Arcachon, the largest town along the littoral. You have a very good choice of bars and restaurants within walking distance, and the town is active and offers a diversity of attractions to keep you enjoyably occupied for three days without requiring a car or taxi. Trains leave Bordeaux for Arcachon frequently throughout the day, so you should be able to time your arrival in Bordeaux and the transfer to the Arcachon train with a minimum of delay between the two.

As someone who creates itineraries and accompanies people on château visits, forum rules prohibit me from directly answering your question regarding tour guides, but perhaps others on the list will have suggestions for you.
