Provence to the Caves: best way there with limited time?

We are visiting Provence and Barcelona, and would love to take a detour and see the caves. We leave Provence on the 10th, and are due in Barcelona on the 11th. So far, I haven't been very successful finding easy train routes. The other option is to rent a car. Are we being crazy trying to fit this in? Should be just spend an extra day in either place and do the caves sometime in the future? Also, if we don't do the caves, is Carcassone worth the stop? Thanks.

If you mean the caves In the Dordogne valley (eg Les Eyzies) they are hundreds of miles off any possible direct route between the Provence region and Barcelona. There are no train routes that even begin to make sense with several days to spare, let alone just one.

By car driving from say Nice to Les Eyzies will take about 8 hours according to Google maps route planner and from Les Eyzies to Barcelona about 6 hours.

Sorry to be a kill-joy!

Carcassonne is only 30 minutes or so off the direct train route towards Barcelona (change trains at Narbonne) so with some planning a side trip there could easily be managed,

Yeah, I figured it was a pipe dream.

We may stop in Carcassone if we have time, and do the caves on a future trip.
