tour guide for Bordeaux

A group of 19 of us hired bordeaux-wine-travel for a tour from our cruise ship docked in Bordeaux to St. Emilion. I feel like we were ripped off. We had a driver, not a tour guide. He rarely spoke to the group; just drove us from one place to another. We did go to two great wineries in the morning. The staff at these wineries gave great tours and tastings. We then went to St. Emilion where we wandered around on our own and did a city-sponsored tour we paid for. We then were driven back to our ship. Another post said we would have a tour that would "knock our socks off." NOT TRUE. The webpage states what was to be included and it was not at all. Very disappointing.

If you are looking for a wine guide in Bordeaux, you can't do better than Dewey Markham, Jr. (dmjwineworks.com). Dewey is an American who married a French wife and has lived in Bordeaux for many years. He literally wrote the book about the 1855 Bordeaux wine classification that still exists to this day. He is highly respected at the Bordeaux wine chateaux. We were on a wine cruise in early September, 2012, and fortuitously booked Dewey's services for a one day tour of the Medoc region. He picked us up at the ship in Le Verdon and had arranged private tours of three classified chateaux, including Chateaux Lascombes, and a delightful lunch at Cafe Lavinal, next to Chateaux Lynch Bages, which we also toured. During that tour, another guide paid Dewey homage by asking to be photographed with him. It was clear that Dewey was a person of influence in the wine world. As I said before, you can't do better than Dewey for wine touring in Bordeaux.
