I've used the Excess Baggage concession on platform 10 Piccadilly station to store my luggage . It's open daily to 11pm , I think, but see the link for more info :

I don't know of anywhere else in Manchester were you can leave luggage.

If you're coming to Manchester by train, no problem. Dump your stuff at Piccadilly then get the Metrolink tram from Piccadilly, best one to get is the Altrincham tram, get off at Old Trafford and it's less than 10 minutes walk out from the station, along Warwick Rd, straight across Talbot Rd and carry straight on. You need to buy a ticket before you get on the tram, buy an off-peak return presuming you are after 0930, probably about £3.20.

The alternative is to get off the train at Altrincham and get a day saver (about £5, NOT the same as a return, as you can use it for all 3 journeys) on the tram and go all the way from Altrincham to Piccadilly then as above, but it will probably take longer, as the train only stops once (at Stockport), but the tram stops about 12 times and goes slowly on the roads in the city centre.
