There was a similar question a few weeks back - several answers on there:

I would highly recommand 'Taps', it is behind the Midlands, not far from the AMC cinema so a few minutes down the road.

It is a Belgian bar/restaurant, which has beer taps are on each table so you can help yourself. They have the traditionnal 'Moules-Frites' on the menu (Mussels and Chips) which are really good. They also use to have a 'Beat the Clock' menu until 7, meaning that you'd pay the price of the time you arrive. An original dinner for sure!

You are also only a few minutes away from Chinatown where there are loads of Chinese and other Asian restaurants. Head for the block surrounded by the corner of Portland and Princess Streets if you're not sure where to go.

Other places I'd recommend:

Piccolino (smart family-run Italian off Albert Square)

Croma (modem pizza/pasta place, facing Piccolino)
