Hotel for family near Ironbridge

Hello, can anybody suggest the best hotel to stay in while we visit Ironbridge? I'll be with children; prefer somewhere good and maybe with a pool.

Many thanks

Haven't stayed at these hotels but in Ironbridge itself is the Best Western but doesn't look like they have a pool, been to a wedding there and was very good, backs down to the river.

Otherwise Telford would be the nearest.

There is the Holiday Inn which has pool and spa.

Or look at the Telford Hotel and Golf Resort which has spa and pool, again I have only been here for a wedding but very good

I agree with Chris it all depends on what you want more;

If it's a pool, spa, modern etc. then you should go for the Telford Hotel & Golf resort. It's the nearest hotel to Ironbridge with a pool. It's about 3 miles from the bridge so although walkable (a very scenic route) you may prefer to drive. But this hotel is closest to Blists Hill Victorian Museum.

If its location you want (but without a pool), then the Best Western Hotel (also known as the Valley Hotel) is around 1/2 mile from the bridge but about 3 miles from Blists Hill.

The hotels by the Bridge itself are (IMO) not of the same quality level as these two.

The best place for a family would be one of the YHA's in the area - either Coalbrookdale or Coalport.

Thanks for the suggestions. We'll have a car so location not crucial - may go for the Hotel and Golf Resort.

I would second the Holiday Inn or Best Western - our family used to be members of the leisure club at the golf and spa resort and we always felt it was a bit run down. It's not in the nicest area either. The Holiday Inn backs onto a massive park and the shopping centre also, with bowling and an ice rink close.

I stayed here a few years ago and it was very nice. It is still highly rated in TA and they have a family room.

hi

we visited the telford area with our kids years ago - the museums are great - we bought a pass alllowing entry to them all and exp;ored them over about 3 weekends - the nearby raf base has a great museum to cosworth?

in those days we stayed in the holiday inn - that would be a saf choice and it is also very close to the very nice park in telford

more ecemtly we have been back on our own a couple of times and stayed at the madeley court its an old manor house in its own grounds woth a large duckpond and the kids would proably rather enjoy it - but no pool or spa

id first find out the holiday inn rates then contact madeley court and see what the can offer - we went in january which is obvously low season and they did a very good all-inclusive rate including breakfast light lunch and 2 course meal plus free soft drinka and tea and coffee all day plus free wine and beer around dinner time
