Things to do with kids near Wexford Town

Hi folks,

Bringing our kids camping in Ferrybank in a few weeks and we are looking for things to do with the kids around the area. They are 8 and 10 (two girls). We are already decided on bringing them the the Heritage Park, they are dying to go there and we are going to head out to Curracloe to the beach and the sand dunes but just wondering if people have any ideas that aren't going to cost the earth.

We will have the car with us so travelling (within reason) is no problem.

Thanks a mill!

Couple of websites that might be of interest there OP.

I'm not the best source of information about Wexford, but along the coast there is Hook lighthouse, which is well worth a visit - cafe, toilets and a lighthouse to climb(pay in). Also interesting rock formations to scramble around on provided the tide is out and the weather is reasonably calm.

Duncannon fort also interesting and good for exploring. There will be a sandcastle day there sometime in the summer, might be worth checking if it is while you are there. Nice beach.

The famine ship at New Ross is well worth a visit.

Lots of lovely beaches all along the coast - check out Lady's Island and Carnsore, and Kimore Quay.

You might get some ideas from the link above. One that I am sure that you will all enjoy is a visit to the seashell house in Cullenstown. Also visit the lovely beach at Baginbun, near Fethard on Sea. btw these are not too far off the route you would take to the Hook Head, as suggested above. There is also an old fort in Duncannon which is worth a visit.

And perhaps best of all, take the short car ferry crossing from Ballyhack to Passage East. This is always a favourite for children (and adults). It is not very expensive and it runs at least 3 or 4 time each hour. From Passage East a drive to the beautiful village of Dunmore East would be nice. you will not get all of these done on one day. The ferry part could be left for a day of its own. Hope the weather has picked up by then, but as Billy Connelly says "there is no such thing as a bad day, only the wrong clothing"
