2 night trip away ?

Hi guys , wonder if you can help , looking for a 2 night break with husband getting the ferry from Pembrokeshire to Rosslare. Is there much going on there to keep us entertained for 2 nights and days? A few shops and pubs etc would suit us. We are taking the car and on the ferry it is costing us £210 for 2 people and 1 car (is this good ? can I get it cheaper maybe ?) so don’t mind driving around a bit from the port but not further than an hour , what is the next place over or up from Rosslare ? looking for some inspiration, help and advice. Many thanks.

There are several pubs/hotels and a couple of shops in Rosslare Harbour village at the top of the hill overlooking the port. The Sli Charman coastal path starts in the village.

Rosslare Strand is a separate village around 10 minutes by car from Rosslare Harbour

Wexford Town, around 25 minutes drive from the port has pleasant shopping streets, quayside walk (railway runs alongside street), Opera house (festival in October). Irish National Heritage Park at Ferrycarrig on outskirts of town also worth a visit.

Johnstown Castle estate and agricultural museum - around 20 minutes from the port.

Kilmore Quay - pleasant fishing village - around 30 minutes drive from the port.

Campile village - has a memorial to the bombing in 1940 which claimed the lives of three local people. From Campile it's under ten minutes to the Passage East cross-river ferry (around 5 mins crossing time and a continuous service).

Once across the river it's around a twenty minute drive to Waterford City.

Alternatively there's the town of New Ross which has a replica famine ship (tours available) and a cruising restaurant.

Just a sample of what there is within an hour or so of the port.

Can't comment on the car fare as I nearly always use the ferry and train Rosslare-Fishguard. What I can say is that a Llanelli to Rosslare Harbour all-in Sail and rail fare is £62 return per adult.

Hello. About 1.5 hours from Rosslare is the wonderful city of Waterford. It has a very good museum, a nice pedestrian shopping area downtown, old town walls and Reginalds Tower, and good restaurants. If you don't want to stay in the city itself consider Dunmore East, a very nice fishing village about 20 minutes south of Waterford. If you do decide on Dunmore East, take the ferry at Ballyhack across the River Suir and into Passage East. From there you are about 15 minutes from Dunmore East. Hope this helps, and enjoy.

I have just returned from a weekend in Wexford town and it has a great selection of pubs and really nice restaurants. It also has some really nice shops and definitely a great place to chill out for 2 days.

It would be a short drive from Rosslare and might suit your requirements.

I think Wexford town, just a short drive north from Rosslare would fit the bill exactly. Wexford town is great for shopping, pubs, restaurants, strolling about the lively long main street and also along the beautiful quays. There is lots to do around the area. Also if you can manage it a drive to Kilmore Quay (note the "quay" part) will be very rewarding. I could go on, but you will find lots of great places here on Trip Advisor. Or just keep asking questions if you wish, there are some very helpful contributors here on this forum.
