Staying near Waterford

We're traveling to Ireland in August and as part of our trip will be staying one night in Kilkenny and then down through Wateford and on to Kinsale. Any recommendations for staying either near Waterford or in Dunmore East, or is it better to stay in Ardmore or Dungarvin?

Thanks.

It depends on what you want to do in Waterford and whether you want to stay in a hotel or b&b.

It is only about 45 minutes from Kilkenny to Waterford, so if you only want to see the Crystal factory you could then move on as far as Dungarvan, also around 40 minutes on a good road, or Ardmore.

If you want to visit Dunmore East though, or do the walking tour of Waterford, or check out the famine ship at New Ross the Foxmount at Passage East has been highly recommended http://www.foxmountcountryhouse.com/ and Clauds recommends Creadon View in Dunmore East tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g1062892-d60297…

Thanks. We're traveling from Dublin to Kilkenny (staying one night) and thought we'd try to hit the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and maybe Jerpoint Abby on the way. Is that doable? After night in Kilkenny, then on to Waterford for the factory tour and maybe the walking tour - then possible stay in Dunmore East for the night. Foxmount Country House is full up the night we'd be there so maybe we'll try the Creaden View B&B.

We're then off to Kinsale.

Hopefully that itinerary is workable.

I doubt you would do all that and get to Waterford in time for a tour of the Crystal factory. And the walking tour is 12 and 2 - though that is info from last year, I presume it is still the same.

You are also zig-zagging about between Jerpoint and Cashel.

I wonder if you would consider Kilkenny - Jerpoint - Waterford, do walking tour and Crystal, stay in Dunmore East. Then the next day go Carrick-on-Suir, Clonmel, Cashel, Cahir and down to Cork.
