fab eating places - in and around Dundalk (with car)

Hi - I'm going to be in Dundalk and interested to know where the great eating places are. Will be travelling about a bit and have read about Magees Bistro and the Oystercatcher in Carlingford, and found the Carlingford good food website. Are there any other places that people would recommend? Either casual or smarter - as long as the food is good.

many thanks

Hello, if you are coming to Dundalk then there is a place where you simply have to go as their steak is the best I have ever tasted. If you are going at the weekend you will have to make a reservation.

The resteraunt is called Fitzpatricks and it is in the Cooley Pinnensula. Basically, it is in between the sea and the mountains. The views are breathtaking! This is the website: http://www.fitzpatricks-restaurant.com

If you are at the main Ballymac roundabout in Dundalk (this is the roundabout which takes you to Dublin, Newry or Dundalk) take the turn off for Carlingford. About 6 miles down this straight road you will see Fitzpatricks on the left hand side of the road. You will love it.

Also if you are in Dundalk you should take a trip to Saint Bridgets well. Saint Bridgit was born in a place called Faughart and she was burried there. They have build a shrine to her and it is a lovely and very peaceful place where people from all over the world come to pray. If you are on the Ballymac roundabout, take the road off the roundabout for Newry, it will take you off the Ballymac roundabout onto a smaller roundabout. On this smaller roundabout, take the turn for Faughart. Keep going straight, you will go under a railway bridge, at this point take a right turn up the hill. After 1/4 mile you will see a signpost pointing up to the left. The signpost will read St. Bridgets Shrine. It is a lovely, lovely place and it is amazing how peaceful and touching it it. I would highly recommend a visit.

Emma

You should try The Forge in Collon, not far from Dundalk.

The food is amazing and he atmosphere is lovely - roaring fires, cosy seats and great service, perfect for a cold Louth evening!

It is also a gallery so you will have something interesting to look at wwhile you eat!

It isn't cheap but is definitely worth the money.

I'm not as good at directions as the last poster but check out http://www.forgegallery.ie/

for more details.

If you are around at the weekend I can highly recommend the 5 course Sunday lunch. The menu changes every week so check the website for details.

Be sure to book though, as this the the regulars favourite time!

The new Adelphyjade was highly recommended to me, I had meals regularly in the Jade Garden, which is owned by the same chinese familt. The food, service and ambience are great.

The restaurant on the 11th floor of the new Crown Plaza Hotel was also recommended for it's food and views. If you turn off the motorway at the Dundalk south exit you will see the hotel beside the Institute of Technology (DKIT).

If you want to try somewhere out of town I can personally recommend the following:-

The Brake in Blackrock.

Fitzpatricks in Rockmarshal.

The Glyde in Annagassan.
