Knocktopher Abbey,County Kilkenny on public transport

Hi Irishrover,

I have read all the posts for Kilkenny and many said that a car

is essential to do justice to the area.We are from overseas

and we do not plan to drive when we are over there sometime

in May 2014.I've failed locating the Abbey on the Kilkenny

map.How far is it from the nearest town where a bus passes

through? How much would a taxi ride fromthe nearest bus/train

stop to the Abbey cost?

Any information is much appreciated.

Thank you

I have answered this question more than once. Here is the most recent thread.

There are only two roads in Knocktopher which bisect roughly at rightangles, the R699 and the R713. The entrance to the Abbey is on the R713 just south of the crossroads.

A taxi from Thomastown to Knocktopher would be about 15 euros and there are several operators. A taxi between Knocktopher and Balyhale should cost around 7 euros, but I don't know of any taxis in that area.

Driving in South Kilkenny is not difficult. Just get a small car and take your time.
