The railway rolling stock is very modern and very comfortable.

With seven of you trvalleing, and with luggage, you will need to hire a large MPV or minibus, which can prove quite expensive.

Rail is great for point to point travel from Dublin to the major towns and cities, but it limits you to then taking bus tours from your destination. You could of course take the train to KIllarney and hire a car (or two small cars might be cheaper) when you get there

We took a train from Cobh in 2010, with luggage. We had to change trains in Limerick Junction ---- pulling said luggage down a long way. The trains were new and clean -- but with luggage not so much fun.
