bus pass options

what would recommend buying a rambler bus pass or a leap card for a stay of 12 days? This will be used only Dublin area.

Stick to the ramblers. Leap is useful for commuters using different modes.

I think the Rambler tickets are the better option, especially if using the buses will be your main mode of transport in the city. The LEAP card, deducts a fare each time you use it, whereas the Rambler is valid for unrestricted travel on the buses for each day that it is used - it is great just to be able to hop on any bus that you want, whenever you want.

As you are staying for 12 days, I would start off with a 5 Day Rambler (€25) - it does not have to be used on consecutive days. There may be some days that you do not use the buses at all, especially around the city centre which is quite compact, and when that 5 Day ticket is used up, you can then decide whether to buy another 5, 3 or 1 day Rambler ticket, depending on what you think you might be doing for the remaining days of your trip. The Rambler ticket is also valid on the airport Airlink747 express bus service to the city centre (normal fare €6), which might suit you, depending on which hotel you are staying at.The Rambler tickets can be bought in arrivals at Dublin airport.

If you do intend to use the LUAS (tram) or DART (surburban rail) to get to the outer limits of the city (Bray, DunLaoire, Howth, Malahide, Skerries,Tallaght), then just buy those fares separately as you need them. However, buses serve all those areas - albeit a bit slower getting there.
