Transport to & from Dublin airport to Brooks Hotel, Drury St

My wife and I will be arriving at Dublin Airport (DUB) in the midafternoon of Friday, June 26, and need to get to the Brooks Hotel on Drury Street, with moderate luggage.

Additionally, on Sunday, June 28, we will be leaving flying from Dublin on a 10:30 AM AER LINGUS flight with the same moderate luggage.

What transport should we choose on arriving?

What transport should we choose for departure and How Early should we depart from the Brooks Hotel?

Your options are

1. Taxi - straightforward and will cost about €30 each way but will vary depending on traffic etc.

2. Aircoach - airport express coach. Nearest drop off point to Brooks is at Grafton St/Trinity College (8-10 mins walk from Brooks) and fare is €7 one way or €12 return per person. Pick up for the return is in Suffolk St (about 5 mins from hotel)

3. Dublin Bus Airlink - airport express bus, route 746. Nearest drop off point is Kildare St. and nearest pick up point is Dawson St, both about 5-8 minutes walk from Brooks. Fare is €6 one way or €10 return per person.

4. Dublin Bus city service - Route 16A to and from South Great Georges St, about 3 minutes from hotel. Fare is about €2.20 per person each way. Note that this is a normal city bus service and not a direct express service, so travel time is considerably longer than other options.

On departure time from Brooks, you need to plan on being at the airport 2 hours before most departures or 3 hours if travelling to the US (due to US Immigration etc at Dublin Airport). Early Sunday morning, a taxi will take about 30 minutes to the airport and Aircoach about 1 hour (including some waiting time). Airlink and Dublin Bus services are not available sufficiently early on Sundays to meet your schedule.

For info on 2, see www.aircoach.ie and on 3 & 4, see www.dublinbus.ie.

Unfortunately the Dublin Bus 746 service from Dublin Airport to Dun Laoghaire and vice versa is not an express service like the Airlink 747 and 748. It's like a regular Dublin Bus route with stops every few hundred metres. Fares and journey time information already given to you in relation to the 16a bus also apply to the 746.

Go with Airlink: it is less expensive than the coach and there are many routes everyday. Get a return ticket (less money), but, be sure to check the schedules when going back to the airport: they can vary depending on the day/location/etc..... It is very easy to locate the Airlink bus upon arrival to the Dublin Airport.

You will have to handle your bags on and off the coach, and, it may be crowded: all seats were taken when we boarded and we had to stand. If money is no factor, a cab, of course......

As has already been pointed out by Domhnall, Airlink will be of no use to the OP for their return journey to Dublin Airport as the service starts too late on Sunday to allow them to make their check in time.

What about transportation to Griffith House (in Drumcondra) from the Dublin Airport. There will be six of us traveling together with a least one large suitcase each?

Thanks for any information!!!

Your best option would be to take a taxi if there are six of you with luggage. The staff at the taxi queue in Dublin Airport will get you a taxi large enough for your party. Taxis only charge €1 per extra passenger, regardless of the length of journey and there's no charge for luggage. The journey should only take you about 15 minutes.

The only other alternative for getting to Griffith House would be to take the No. 16a or 41 bus routes from the airport to the top of Upper Drumcondra Road and then walk a few minutes down Griffith Avenue. But these buses are regular Dublin Bus routes and they are not geared up for carrying luggage.

Thank you so much. . . I'll pass the information on to our group (3 mothers and 3 daughters in their late 20's).

Airlink 747 and 748 express services, Airoach services and Dublin Bus routes No. 16a and 41 all go from the airport to the city centre. And of course there's also taxis. You'll find timetables and fares here. The fare on the 16a and 41 is €2.20 one way.
