New Year in Dublin

New Year in Dublin

We are thinking of spending New Year in Dublin.

Any advice and recommendations for restaurants for NYE. The youngest member of our group will be 16 so will he be allowed into restaurants/bars?

Also do you need to buy tickets to get entrance to certain areas. I have also read somewhere about a parade?

Also we possibly will book an airbnb, best area for location and public transport.

Thank you in advance for any advice

Try to stay central if planning to have NYE out in the city, transport can be difficult as it’s such a busy night. What god if good are you thinking of, you’d possibly want to book if a large number. There is usually a concert somewhere in the city, free but you need to get tickets.

The 16 year old will have difficulty getting into bars after 9pm, but not restaurants.

Are you there only for the 1st of January or for how long?

New year in Dublin is a bit of an anti climax. We don't have fireworks and the main event is usually a concert near Temple Bar.

Last year instead of fireworks we had aqua beams.

Keep an eye on this website for events on over NYE. You can also access the site from last year which will give you a flavor of what to expect this year.

We were there 2 years ago for NYE and had a terrific time at the NYF that night and the days leading up. Sure it's not as big of a scene as Chicago where we are from, but the concert was top notch, the crowd was great and the crowds were not suffocating around St. Stephen's Green.

Also, we ate at Gallaher & Co. that evening and it was wonderful. We go there every time we visit Dublin, but their NYE prix fixe menu was excellent.

With a 16year old book into a restaurant and enjoy any events but they won't be allowed into pubs.

The old Dublin tradition of ringing the New Year in with the bells of Christchurch is also a good option.
