I will be traveling to Co Donegal in mid June for a 2 week stay. I will be staying in Moville.

Could you recommend the best source for me to get a local weather report over the next few weeks as I start packing.

My plan is to be prepared for all seasons. I will be bringing long pants, long sleeve shirts, winter type sweaters and sweatshirts, a few short sleeve tees and a couple pair of shorts. A winter jacket and gloves, a spring jacket and rain gear. And sneakers and a pair of dressier shoes. I don't think I need skirts and dresses. I would think a pair of black jeans and nice sweater will suffice if I need something "nice".

Am I on the right track? Thanks.

http://Www.met.ie

If the link worked as on my phone.

I travel in September and take light trousers that dry quick in rain, tshirts, zip up hoody, waterproof coat that covers my bum and I tend to wear either sketchers (recent concert) or walking trainers..

Take a scarf and a hat also. I hate umbrellas so never use one.

I think you're okay for the clothes you're planning to take but am not sure you'll need gloves in June...

I am sorry to say that I don't really trust the Irish meteorological forecast for the weather - they just seem to get it wrong lots of times (and I know that I will be contradicted on this). I have found this website to be more trustworthy: http://www.weather-in-uk.co.uk. I use it for when we stay in Donegal (I use the Letterkenny link since it would the closest to where we stay) and it's seldom wrong. For Moville you could use the link http://www.weather-in-uk.co.uk/United_Kingdom/Northern_Ireland/Derry/.

Weather forecasts for specific areas are difficult. We've been warned of rain when staying on the Rosguill peninsula in Donegal but had glorious sunshine all day while watching the rain coming down over the Fanad peninsula just a few kilometres to the east from us.

Met.ie is probably the best but only for maybe 24 hours in advance. Prior to my departure on May 6th I looked at accuweather.com and weather.com and met.ie and all forecasted horrible gusty storms with winds of 40 mph, rain, etc. for a few days of my trip, and yet I only had one short morning of drizzle and the rest of the trip was blue skies and sunshine. There's no forecasting Ireland's weather - just be prepared for the worst and hope for the best!

I stay very frequently in County Donegal.. Firstly, forget the shorts unless you are planning on finding a gym to work out, though I travel with a pr of 3/4 lenght capri's.

I bring 3/ 4 waterproof rain jacket with a hood, it has a light liner, I add a fleece gilet which has a zipper and inside & outside pockets & if the weather is on my side I roll up the rain jacket & stash it & use the gilet.

Trousers for hill walking / hiking cotton blend that dry over night, one pr is darker, both suitable for going to a pub in the evening.

Layers, light weight long sleeve cotton & slik blend, tee-shirts and long sleeve fleece pullovers.

Light weight wool cap & I use IMAK gloves, keeps fingers warm for hill walking / hiking / scrambling.

Buy a scarf in Ireland as a memento, (where are you starting from & can make recommendations along the way).

I travel with Keens for walking / hiking & Merrell trail shoes, merino wool socks.

Pants in Ireland = your undergarments.

Bring your shorts, they don't take up a lot of space in your luggage. Shorts have been very much in evidence here since April.

Irish people understand what Americans mean by "pants".

I totally agree about the weather forecasts as everywhere here seems to get it's own local events. Take yesterday as an example, the weather section of the RTE app showed a big shiny sun for up here & nice temps. Yesterday was sunny & very warm up to mid/late afternoon but it's been total cloud cover & overcast since then, not a sign of the sun.

I would only bring one pair of shorts on the offchance that you might get a chance to wear them.

Your dressier clothes choice should be fine but I would say a dress might take up

Less space than jeans and a jumper.

Not sure what you mean by winter sweaters? Do you mean big thick woolly ones? If so I'd opt for a lighter knitted cotton instead and bring a light fleece for warmth if needed. Layer your clothes so you can put on or take off as required.
