Monument in County Cork

We were recently on a coach tour. After crossing the Cork & Kerry Mountains, in County Cork, somewhere near Macroom we passed a fairly small monument. It was just on the side of the road, no fence or anything, in a sort of wooded area. All we could read as the coach went by was "IRA" in large letters. The tour guide didn't mention it and we didn't see it in time to get a picture. We are wondering if anyone can tell us what this monument was

Thank you. It was indeed one of these - the one marking the ambush of auxies in Feb 1921. That is one reason why I dislike coach tours - you can't stop to get a pic when you see something of interest.

One of the joys of car travel is being able to stop at roadside shrines and holy wells. So far, my favorite shrine is just west of Letterfrack in Galway and just alongside Letterfrack Bay. It's not visible going west until you're past it. If you see the Avoca Shop you've gone just a few metres too far.
