Best stops on the west coast

I will be spending ten days traveling from Dublin to Killarney finishing up in Galway. I have a few days before I have to make my way by car up to the north. I thought about spending a night in Sligo and then a night in either Donegal or Enniskillen - any thoughts? Any accommodation suggestions. Thanks

When will your visit take place? Where is your final destination 'up north'? Are you thinking hotel, guesthouse, farmhouse or B&B for accommodation?

Plus an idea of your interests - all would make it easier to make suggestions.

Sorry, here's some more info:

1. Traveling 2 and 3rd week of October.

2. Finishing up in Dungannon, County Tyrone.

3. Wld like hotel or luxury guesthouse but not more than €100 per night.

4. Interests are photography, quiet shopping (as opposed to mall shopping), nature, walking

Does this help?

After a night in Sligo, you can drive into southern Donegal, tour the Slieve League peninsula, and spend the night in Donegal Town, or perhaps a village like Ardara (noted for its woolen goods). The following day, you can drive east from Donegal town, towards Dungannon.

Taking account of the short daylight hours in October, I would suggest that an overnight in Sligo would be most sensible. From here take the N16 route towards Enniskillen where there is some wonderful scenery including the Glencar waterfall that is worth stopping off to see. Enniskillen has some very nice shops, with Castle Coole and grounds owned by the National Trust is well worth a look.

It would be a great idea to spend your first night in Sligo and go to Donegal for the second night. If you enjoy walking and photography, Knocknarea or BenBulben Mountain in Sligo are both worth a visit, and the stunning Slieve League Cliffs in Donegal would be great options aswell. In regards to accommodation, you could check out Strandhill Lodge & Suites or Ceol Na Mara in Sligo and Donegal Manor or Woodhill House in Donegal.

On your way to Dungannon, you could also stop in Enniskillen so that you can visit Enniskillen Castle or Florence Court, a beautiful 18th Century property.
