Ferries Vs Flying from London to Dublin

Hi All,

I'm in the process of planning a trip to Europe in Dec this year. I've looked at ferries to go from either Liverpool or Holyhead to Dublin but I'm wondering what people's thoughts were on catching the ferry versus flying as well as rough costs?

Recommend you fly: much quicker, therefore more time in Dublin - and crossing the Irish Sea in December?? Not for the faint-hearted!

If you book in advance, I'm pretty sure you'll find it cheaper than train/ferry:

Ryanair is a "budget" airline and has very strict rules on baggage allowance and cabin baggage, so be sure to read booking conditions carefully:

Rail and sail will cost you €40 including baggage take you about 6 hours minimum. Liverpool crossing is mainly freight and does not combine railfare so will cost an awful lot more. Stena Line are our operator of choice.

I use both dependant on what I am carrying (can't take a tool kit on a plane) and other factors like time. Flying is an awful lot quicker.
