Which nearby countries should I visit in January?

Hello All!

I'm traveling to Ireland in January with a group of my girlfriends from college. We'd like to visit one other country nearby, but are on a budget. Which would you recommend and what is there to do in the country you've chosen?

We are debating between Amsterdam (although we're NOT into drugs), London, but have also briefly looked at other cities in the UK as well as Belgium.

PLEASE HELP ME!

I adore London. Although it can be very expensive.

Because there's nothing else to Amsterdam than drugs?!!

How long have you got in Europe? Keep in mind daylight hours will be short

I would travel a bit further to Spain or Portugal. Your money will go further, and the culture and food are super.

I will be in Europe from Jan2-9! If you have suggestions of things to do in Amsterdam other than drugs, let me have it!

I'm sure you have no idea how offensive that your only reference to Amsterdam is drugs can be to the Dutch or people who enjoy visiting Amsterdam.

Its like saying everyone in the USA carries and uses a handgun daily while being high on opioids. Or Bangkok is full of only child trafficking. A visit to Mexico will guarantee criminal victimization. That is a blatant mis-characterization of one of the worlds loveliest cities, charming cultures, and friendly people.

Please give some consideration when posting negativity.

Please, I urge you to post on the Amsterdam forum and read the Thngs To Do catagory on the home page.

I can recommend Disney World, but don't look over at The Orange Blossom Trail.

Arriving on 2 January departing on the 9th (if that’s your plan) will give you only 6 full days to visit Ireland. Flying to another country doesn’t seem very efficient to me, as two of your days in Europe will be travel days.

I suggest you write down your itinerary and see how much time you really have.

Something like this

2 Jan arrive (Dublin?)

3 Jan in Dublin

4 Jan fly to Country x

5-6 Jan in Country x

7 Jan fly back to Ireland

8 Jan in Ireland

9 Jan fly home

***

For an easy trip to a nearby country, consider Northern Ireland, Just a couple of hours by train or bus from Dublin.

Enjoy!

You should post on the Amsterdam forum if you want to know more about the city. There is certainly far, far more to the place than drugs. I think you need to be very careful not to accidentally insult cities, countries and people. I'm sure you didn't mean to come across in such a manner.

Pretty much the whole of Europe is within a couple of hours flight time from Dublin. Spain and Portugal are good value destinations. I'd go to Italy though because I love it so much, or to Berlin because it is such a great city with loads to do.
