(wonder if TA spellcheker will let that through...)
Odd. You'd think there would have been people/staff in the building just before lunchtime service. Apparently fire crews have been there through the night dampening it down. Can't find word on the cause of the fire yet.
there were staff in building and apparently the fire was started when sparks flew from the chimney and ignited the thatched roof. The reason it spread so quickly and was difficult to contain was the thatched roof was treated with a water resistant coating.
Just spotted this review from someone who visited in June. The fire looked pretty devastating to me. Have they really managed to re-open that quickly?
I was down in Kirkoswald yesterday. They have not even started to sort the place. However the tearoom next door was open and we had lovely scones and coffee. I can't see it being open again for at least a year. Perhaps the reviewer got them mixed up?
